The Discs
The main piece of gear a person would need for disc golf would be the disc. Discs fall into 3 different categories, The Drivers, Mid-Ranges, and Putt and Approach. Drivers are then again separated by Fairway Drivers and Distance Drivers.
For Absolute distance, a distance driver is what you would want out on the course. Distance drivers range from speed 10-14 and are harder to throw and control. For slower and controllable distance you would need a fairway driver. Fairway drivers range from speed 6-9, some are easier to throw but others are a bit more difficult .Mid-Range drivers are easy to throw and have the most glide out of all the other drivers. These drivers range from speed 3-5.
The Numbers
Every major disc manufacture gives their discs 5 different numbers to classify their discs into different categories. These 5 numbers Speed/Glide/Fade/Turn.
Speed- The speed of discs ranges from 1-14, 1 being the slowest and 14 being the fastest. This number generally tells the thrower how fast the disc has to be throw to do what it is meant to do. Another helpful thing it tells a thrower is how hard wit will be to throw. One thing to keep in mind is the faster the disc the harder it is to throw
Glide- Glide ranges from 1-7, Glide tell the thrower how well the disc will stay aloft in the air while flying. A disc with a 5,6, 0r 7 will stay in the air for a longer time and add more distance to a throw. Discs with a lot of glide are recommended for beginners.
Turn- The discs range from -1 to +5. Turn tells a thrower how much a disc will go left, the higher the turn the farther right it will go. Discs with less turn will fly less to the right. Discs with more turn are perfect for beginners.
Fade- Fades numbers range from 0-5 and this shows how much left the disc will go as it losses speed towards the end of the discs flight. The higher the number the more left it will go.
