Bouldering is a general climbing term used to describe activities that do not normally require technical gear.  In some cases a rope and harness would be advised based on the difficulty and degree of risk.  Climbs tend to put you anywhere from 5 – 40 feet up with 10-20 foot exposure commonplace.   These are the best training and beginning zones.

One of the best natural areas for this is Stoney Point in the San Fernando Valley.  There are numerous boulder problems of several difficulty grades all throughout this area.

Another is Point Dume though longer full routes can be found in both locations.
